The Gun Websites crew went back to Big Sandy in March 2019, going live from the shoot with a history of the event and viewer questions, filming the night shoot, and documenting the drive up from Tucson and back. Belt fed machine guns, large caliber ammunition and fireworks over the night line made it one of the best Big Sandy trips on the channel.
Big Sandy Machine Gun Shoot 2019 History
By 2019 the Big Sandy Shoot had been running for decades, twice a year, on the same desert range near Wikieup. The 1986 freeze on new transferable machine guns had pushed the value of legal machine guns ever higher, which made a place where owners shoot them in public all the more unusual.
A year later the fall 2020 shoot was canceled, one of many events lost that year, which made the spring 2019 trip feel even more special in hindsight.

The live history and Q and A at the start of the trip was the right call. Most viewers had never heard of Big Sandy, and explaining the National Firearms Act, the 1986 freeze and how a private range ends up hosting the largest machine gun shoot in the world made the footage that followed make sense.

The trip started with the drive up from Tucson by way of The Hub, with a stop at a small gun shop with a gunsmithing and arms broker sign along the highway. The night shoot was the highlight, with tracers and fireworks over the hills, and the crew filmed the drive home the next day.
