In a year when many gun shows were canceled, the November 2020 Wanenmacher’s Tulsa Arms Show went on, in the middle of a record year for gun sales. The Gun Websites crew planned the Tulsa trip live, talked all about Tulsa in a live show, and covered the weekend on Gun Calendars, including a look at the Code Talkers Recognition Act on the show’s second day.
Tulsa Arms Show History
Wanenmacher’s Tulsa Arms Show started in 1955 as a club show of the Indian Territory Gun Collectors with 19 tables in the old Tulsa armory. Joe Wanenmacher took it over in 1968, when it had 217 tables, and built it into what is widely called the largest gun show in the world, with about 4,000 tables and nearly six miles of exhibits filling the Quik Trip Center at Expo Square twice a year.
2020 brought more first time gun buyers than any year in American history, and the shows that did open drew buyers who could not find guns or ammunition anywhere else.
Our Take on Tulsa Arms Show November 2020
The 2020 show was a snapshot of a strange market: empty shelves at home, record demand, and collectors who still came to Tulsa for the rare and historic pieces that never show up at a local shop.
Our Tulsa Arms Show November 2020 Adventures
The crew mapped out the Tulsa trip live, then went live again with All About Tulsa. During the show weekend, Gun Calendars marked November 14 as Tulsa Arms Show day and paired November 15 with the story of the Code Talkers Recognition Act.
